Date: April 20 to 28, 2017
Established in 1953, the competition was created by Spanish pianist Joaquín Reyes Cabrera and architect Pablo Castillo García-Negrete. Located in the multi-ethnic cultural hub in Andalucia, the rich historical background of Jaén proves itself the ideal venue for holding the oldest piano competition in the country. Since 1993, candidates are required to play a commissioned set piece by a local Spanish composer besides their own selected repertoires. The competition is at the centre of press focus, with its final being broadcast by local radios and television companies. Chinese pianist Yin Yu Qin was the winner in year 2008.
