Founded in 2003 by Michael Tydén, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Valery Gergiev, the annual event is a landmark celebration of the music of the Baltic Sea. It aims to bring environmental awareness and encourage cultural collaboration to a larger audience. It has now established as one of the major festivals in Europe and is internationally renowned for its focus on emerging leadership in the classical music world. During the week, seminars are held alongside concerts, focusing on the themes around the festival’s three pillars — music, environment and leadership.
